Quarterly Report — What Is It?
A public company's financial statement for three months of operations.
Explanation
Publicly traded companies are required to regularly disclose their earnings and financial position. A quarterly report includes an income statement, balance sheet, cash flow statement, and management commentary.
For investors, three things are usually most important: revenue, margin, and what management says about the upcoming quarters. The numbers themselves describe the past — the share price reflects the future, which is why a company's forecast can move the stock more significantly than the results from the past quarter.
Example
The company reports revenue of 800 million PLN (700 million PLN a year ago) and net profit of 60 million PLN. Revenue grew by 14%, but if profit fell from 70 million PLN, it means the growth cost more than it generated.
