Company Guidance — What Is It?
Management's own expectations for future earnings, provided with the report.
Explanation
Some companies publish revenue or profit guidance for the next period along with their reports. This is the only forecast that comes from people who truly understand the business, hence its importance.
A lowered forecast can push a stock price down more than a weak past quarter, because the market prices in the future. It also works the other way: disappointing results with an raised forecast are sometimes met with a price increase.
Example
The company's earnings meet expectations, but it lowers its annual revenue forecast from 5.0 to 4.6 billion PLN. The share price reacts to the latter piece of news.
