ESPI — What Is It?
The system through which WSE-listed companies publish information that may affect their share price.
Explanation
The Electronic System for Information Transmission (ESPI) is operated by the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF). Companies are required to publish any inside information — meaning information that could influence investors' decisions — immediately after it arises.
ESPI is used for periodic reports, but also for individual events: signing a major contract, changes in management, tender offers, or earnings forecasts. It is the official, primary source of information about companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange — everything you read later in news services is usually a summary of an ESPI announcement.
Example
A construction company publishes a current report about a 400 million PLN contract, with annual revenues of 1.2 billion PLN. This is material information, hence the obligation for immediate publication.
