Dividend ETFs — distributing funds

Funds that pay out dividends to your account instead of reinvesting them — and what you should know before investing in them.

What to know before choosing

An distributing fund pays out company dividends to your account, while an accumulating fund automatically reinvests them. This isn't a difference in profitability, but in where the profit goes — and in taxes: each payout is taxed immediately, whereas with an accumulating fund, you only pay tax when you sell.

Hence a practical conclusion rarely mentioned in advertisements: for long-term capital building, an accumulating fund is usually more tax-efficient, while a distributing fund makes sense when you want to live off your portfolio. A separate issue is the settlement of tax on foreign payouts — these must be declared independently in your annual tax return.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I buy these funds through a Polish broker?

Yes — this is a catalog of funds listed on European exchanges, accessible from a typical Polish brokerage account. However, the availability of a specific fund depends on your broker, and it's worth checking before placing an order.

What's the difference between an accumulating and a distributing fund?

Accumulating funds reinvest dividends internally, while distributing funds pay them out to your account. For long-term saving, accumulating funds are usually more tax-efficient because you only pay tax when you sell.

Where can I check a fund's fees and holdings?

In the ETF scanner within the Portevo app — there, numbers (TER, holdings, performance, currency) are pulled live for the selected fund.
