What is Market Capitalization?
The total market value of a company: share price multiplied by the total number of shares outstanding.
Explanation
It's the simplest measure of a company's size and the most common way to divide the market into large, mid, and small-cap companies. On the Warsaw Stock Exchange, these correspond to the WIG20, mWIG40, and sWIG80 indexes.
Market capitalization indicates how the market values a company—not its 'true' worth or the cost of its assets. Large market caps usually correlate with higher liquidity, meaning shares are easier to buy and sell without significantly impacting the price.
Example
60 million shares at 150 PLN each results in a market cap of 9 billion PLN.
