What is a brokerage commission?
A fee charged by a broker for executing an order.
Explanation
Usually expressed as a percentage of the transaction value, with a specified minimum amount. This minimum amount determines the profitability of small orders.
Commission is not the only cost. Other costs include the spread, currency conversion fees for foreign instruments, and sometimes account maintenance fees.
Example
A commission of 0.29% with a minimum of 5 PLN on an order of 500 PLN means a real cost of 1%—three times more than the nominal rate.
