Share Price Reaction to Earnings — US Companies
In the US market, a double-digit move after earnings is not uncommon. Below are companies for which holding shares through an earnings report is a distinct decision.

How we calculate this
We take the publication date of each report and check how much the share price changed on the first trading day after that publication. The 'average move' is the average of the absolute values of these changes. We're not interested in the direction, only the strength of the reaction, because a 8% drop and a 8% rise are equally significant for someone holding shares through earnings. Publication dates come from Nasdaq, and share prices from Yahoo Finance.
Why WSE companies are not included
This ranking includes only companies from US exchanges, and we want to state that clearly rather than leave it to guesswork. To calculate the share price reaction, you need to know the exact publication date of every past report; without it, you don't know which trading day to check. For US companies, Nasdaq's calendar provides these historical dates. For the Warsaw Stock Exchange, there is no source that provides them in a format suitable for calculation: Yahoo only knows the nearest upcoming date, and Nasdaq doesn't list WSE companies at all. We prefer to show a ranking without WSE companies rather than one with arbitrary numbers. You can find future publication dates for Warsaw companies in the earnings calendar.
What this number actually means
A high average move doesn't mean a company is good or bad; it means the market is often surprised by its results. This typically happens with companies valued for rapid growth, where the entire valuation depends on a single sentence in the forecast. A company at the bottom of the ranking is simply predictable: the market generally knows what to expect, so the report changes little.
At the other end of the spectrum
Companies whose reports pass almost unnoticed.
Before you use this anywhere
The sample is short—usually four quarters. This is enough to see a company's propensity for sharp movements, but it is not a forecast for the next trading day and should not be treated as such. A company that jumped 20% three times in a row might not budge at all after its fourth report.

What exactly does “average post-earnings move” mean?
The average absolute change in share price on the first trading day after an earnings report, over the last three to four quarters. Absolute, because we're measuring the strength of the reaction, not its direction.
Is high volatility after earnings a bad thing?
No. It indicates that the market is often surprised by this company's results—typical for companies valued for rapid growth. It says nothing about the quality of the business itself.
Can this data predict the next trading session?
No. Four readings show a propensity for sharp movements, but they don't forecast a specific report. Portevo does not publish recommendations.
Why aren't WSE companies included in the ranking?
Because calculating the reaction requires the exact publication date of every past report, and there's no reliable historical source for the Warsaw Stock Exchange. Nasdaq only covers US companies, and Yahoo only provides upcoming dates for the WSE. We prefer to omit WSE companies rather than guess.
Why are some companies missing from the ranking?
Because we have fewer than 3 reports with calculated share price reactions for them. An average from a single reading isn't a statistic, so we omit such companies instead of presenting a number that pretends to be data.
Where do the publication dates and quotes come from?
Dates are from the Nasdaq calendar, daily quotes from Yahoo Finance. These same sources power the earnings calendar and company profiles on Portevo.
